The application to AI and AI to apps example was interesting, I hadn't thought of it this way.

Even though GPT doesn't have the advantages of having its own OS or something like Google Workspace, and has its own limitations, I still prefer it over the others.

That's the power of brand value. As the first mover in the space, OpenAI has managed to establish itself as the standard. But this advantage can be short-lived. For example, Gemini (both the app and Google AI Studio) have very powerful features, on par with ChatGPT. Additionally, with its financial war chest and huge GPU and TPU infrastructure, Google can subsidize access to its models to undercut OpenAI. For example, you currently have access to Gemini Deep Research in the free version of the app, whereas ChatGPT only provides it to the Pro version ($200 per month) and in limited capacity to the Plus version ($20 per month).

In the long run, my money is on Google, with Grok as the runner-up due to its advantage of having access to the largest store of real-time news data.

Yeah, I guess it also depends on what type of work you do with it. I haven't worked with Grok much but will check it if you think it's the next after Google.

Grok's seamless integration in X makes it super useful. You can pull up a post, click the Grok button to get additional context from X and the web, and continue the conversation to get more insights. I find it very useful when following new research and news where I don't have the proper background and want to get up to speed with the discussion.

"the moat shifts from the model to all the scaffolding that surrounds it" --- scaffolding around a (castle) moat defeats its purpose. ;-)
