Google AI is catching up with Microsoft
After several setbacks and failed announcements following the release of ChatGPT, Google made a strong comeback at the I/O 2023 conference. The company announced its new generative AI tools and models at the event.
Although Google—nor Microsoft, for that matter—will probably dominate the LLM market, it is still making sure its products are relevant as the new wave of AI sets in.
Key findings:
Google is aggressively integrating LLMs and generative AI into its products—this is even more important than its new models
Google’s AI product releases seem to be direct copies of Microsoft/OpenAI
The two tech giants are currently reinforcing their moats as the new wave of LLMs is redefining markets
However, as LLMs create new markets, it is not clear who will be the ultimate winner
For big enterprises that are already using Google or Microsoft cloud, the AI integrations will be very convenient
For companies that are not locked into specific cloud ecosystems, open-source models will provide alternative options
